    VA520B Fanstastic Buy

    I bought this meter primarily for the inductance measurement capability with selectable measurement frequencies and the Kelvin leads. The USB interface was a definite plus. But at the price I wondered how accurate it would be. So I compared it to an HP LCR 4274A and a Keithley LCZ 3321 both of which are huge in comparison and many times the cost of the VA520B. I compared two inductances, one a wire loop about an 1 1/2 inch diameter and the other a Dale IHB-1. The wire loop was measured at 100KHz using the built in clips. The HP gave 161nH, the Keithley 155nH and the VA520B 141nH. Yes that is nano Henries. The Dale inductor, a 100uH value, at 10KHz measured 99.5uH on the HP, 99.6 on the Keithley and 100.8 on the VA520B. I used the kelvin leads for Dale inductor.
    The VA520B is well constructed, has a good layout and an easy to read LCD screen. It can be used in the lab or in production.
    The USB interface and software works well and allows data to be saved. I would like more information on the commands to interface to the unit. I don't know if this available or not.
    This is an excellent instrument. I am very pleased with it.
